All the small villages I go thru on me rides are DEAD, I don't know where these people shop, they probably don't. Not even small vietnamese nonstops exist anymore. In czech'em, you either go to gigantic markets (we call them hypermarket for some reason) or you have all your groceries delivered. Out of 100 cagies you meet, half of them are purple vans delivering groceries to some stay at home soccer mom.
