Yeah the shifting is fine and the general design of the hoods and brake lever is great. To fix my issues with the thumb I would place it 5-10mm further forward and 5-10mm further down. The way it is now its like they intend you to grab the shifter at its base close to the handlebar but at the same time the very front end of the shifter is shaped perfectly for hands to rest so which one is it. Maybe it all made sense in the past with different handlebar shapes and bike geometry and they just kept it like that.
The 13s group also has the thumb way back and its narrow now, I don't get it
