I don't even think thats the problem. Originals used to be some of the best shows because it was usually a small team of creatives having full creative freedom, whereas modern originals are cynical slop with every creative decision decided by executives who just want it to copy everything else that is currently popular. Giving money to something actually creative is just too much of a financial risk.
