From the larger quakes in Hungary we are relatively safe, mid strength ones (around 6 like the Croatian) occur about every 50 years. Small ones, below humanly perceivable level, >100 happens a year. I experienced one, was around 3,5 magnitude on the Richter scale.
The quakes here are the results of the collision and movements of African and Eurasian plates. Croatia is toward the south closer to the events, so I guess they got hit a little more frequently in a noticeable way. Besides I read somewhere in the Adria it's Italy which causes troubles as it moves around like a lever or something. I bet Slovborg could talk about this a lot lot.
What's happening in Croatia now is a bit extreme, even tho this 6 is just moderate.
