If only everyone else were people like me! Close quote. Yes, this would be excellent. But it isn't practicable. People are simply too stupid/unwise. These regulations won't work either. Want to avoid monopoly? Force them to split, keep them apart. Don't want? Buy their local assets by decree, sell to national companies. Inefficient? Inconvenient? Deal with it. Free markets schmarkets.
But I bet they are not really interested in having truly "free" platforms. As we saw plainly in USA, such companies are a part of the state (and increasingly integrated or competing with it, depending on which side one sits). They want to (and already do) leverage the control mechanisms they offer.
