Yeap, that's recaptcha for you. I know because I've stopped using 4chan because they've been using recaptcha for a while. It's very shitty for the enduser if you post a fair bit since it uses the "trusted cookies" system, lets you go through if you have enough of a fingerprint for them to use and then ramps up the difficulty of the captcha really fast if you try to use it too much.
