I don't even care for new cats as long as they lurk a bit and try to post in a way that conforms to the culture, but coming in and trying your hardest to stretch the definition of the rules because they're not upheld somewhere else or you err on the side of caution is not it. On a slow board you need only 1-2 bad actors with enough will.
