I do wonder about the nature of Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker. The show has seemed spell it out for us at times yet there are things that sometimes raise questions or aren't so cut and dry. Luna's seemingly willful transformation into NM almost seems to go with a lot of the ideas presented in this fic (though it's conflicted in season 5 when she went emo). Of her being at peace/accepted that part of her/being able to call upon it. This scene has honestly quite fascinated me for years, as it does raise a lot of questions. Wouldn't it be traumatizing for her to do this? Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep would certainly suggest so. Was she shapeshifting? She had fake fangs after all. Though this leads to it's own bunch of implications and ideas.
