>ego doesn't like being anonymous
B4 coming here, spent years thinking and writing about ego
Freud actually liked the ego/superego as a control mechanism for the scary subconscious
Jung liked the subconsious bc he saw it as a door to superconsciousness but was blind to ego, which caused him some problems
My take:
EGO is like a GUN,
Very powerful, must be respected
Can be constructive or destructive
When constructive, allows us to be self-confident actors with leadership potential
When destructive, creates psychic imbalance that makes it hard to do anything worthwhile
Many people have a negative opinion of ego = psychological boogeyman
But without it, we could do NOTHING either good nor bad
Just ask anyone who has experienced psychosis
Which I did, briefly, for a time
Ego was a friend greatly missed when it vanished into nothingness
