The next step for unmoderated community is having AI that is capable of removing illegal content "for free" so you don't have to infect your structure with jannies.
But we are kinda sleeping on that atm, and there are concerns with (external) AI manipulating those spaces.
So we are in a stalemate of people being mostly private rather than seeking a public square.
