I just googled it and apparently for most of the 70s they only had "monosynths" which played one note at a time, and they went through all sorts of convoluted processes to achieve the sounds they wanted through analog means, if it was even viable. Our generation is spoiled rotten in comparison, it's crazy how much easier music has gotten, and no AI was needed
