If you want a car just to move your fat ass around your 15 minute city, Citroen's 2CV is for you. If you think cars can possibly be a product for entertainment and sport and not utilitarian communism, and as such the experience they offer is part of the product, then its not a gimmick.
(And its also a necessary tech for lunar vehicles).
