The awakening usually occurs when you get kicked so hard in the butt you taste shit. When you're suicidal or broken, utterly suffering, then you're willing to give up on status quo.
You have to break the foundations of what you are and question everything you believe, then after this you understand that even belief is arbitrary, truth is subjective, reality then becomes a fuction of your take and beliefs.
