Who is the best rationalist Anonymous 08/13/2019 (Tue) 00:40:54 [Preview] No. 4450
Scott Alexander or Eliezer Yudkowsky?

Anonymous 08/13/2019 (Tue) 00:41:28 [Preview] No.4452 del
They both have strengths and weaknesses. We need a successor Caliph who combines the strength of both; only then can the rationalist community cease its decay and fracturing.

I never thought of eliezer as a chad before but it fits surprisingly well.

The image make a strangely compelling case.

How about Duncan "Dragon Army" Sabien, btw?

The dragon spoken of in Revelations.

Scott is definitely more approachable but I think he's less inspiring.

EY is obviously super intelligent as well but I think he might be a bit full of himself. Maybe.

Quite seriously, though, in the last 5 or so years I'm more impressed by Yudkowsky not getting swept up in all the dumb political bullshit that consumes everybody else. Scott Alexander used to write about philosophy/game theory/fantasy worldbuilding/…, and now a worryingly large percentage of his blog is political editorials that could have been written by an edgy NYT columnist. Even fucking Scott Aaronson used to write about computer science and philosophy, and now a worryingly large percentage of his blog is political editorials that could have been written by an edgy NYT columnist.

Yudkowsky used to write about friendly AI, and he *still* writes about friendly AI. That's a triumph of rationalism right there.

you know, you're kinda right
he only lets loose on social media but in writing form I never saw much from that point of view

Anonymous 08/13/2019 (Tue) 01:36:15 [Preview] No.4606 del
Eliezer is an incompetent philosopher and believes that virtue is bad and sin is good.

Scott has never been terribly impressive.

Neither are suitable.

He bitched about neoreactionaries a LOT on tumblr
If you're talking the output of main blogs though then yeah EY beats out both of the Scotts especially the eternally asspained Aaronson

On tumblr? http://yudkowsky.tumblr.com has a bunch of puns, and some discussion about writing fiction, but nothing obviously political. Is there some other secret Yudkowsky-tumblr I should be aware of?

Is there more like that? On its own, it just looks like a pledge not to interact with neoreaction, which doesn't suggest he posts a lot about it.

Did he ever give his arguments against nrx or did he just try make the trannies on tumblr stop bullying him?

I was wrong to say that he bitched about them a lot. That post in >>4611 stuck out in my mind but as a proportion of total word count from all of his blog posts, NRx discourse is not big.

Are you kidding? Yud's been on Facebook writing tiny-brain drivel about
>Trump is Literally Hitler, You Guys, I Talked To An Intelligence Person And He Said Trump Was Super Bad

Obviously it's Brian Tomasik (reducing-suffering.org), John Nerst (everythingstudies.com) and of course the boy Hanson.
