Curse you Harem Autist Anonymous 08/08/2019 (Thu) 01:29:06 [Preview] No. 181
I haven't been able to stop reading Three Square meals, I'm missing sleep and had plans for this week and I can't help myself because I'm having entirely too much fun binge reading through this massive story. Just finished the Tashana arc and that was amazing. (As were the Nexus and Dragon March arcs)

Same. I’ve managed to resist when I need to but the urge to keep going is so strong. I’m not a fan of the cum inflation fetish but the rest of the story is so much fun that I don’t mind.

I'm... I'm sorry?

At least you're having fun. Wait until you get to my level and are replaying Duel Destiny close to a dozen times to get the harem ending, or not sleeping for close to 48 hours to finish reading Kyon: Big Damn Hero.

I'm actually afraid of what I might do in pursuit of my autism.

Oh, and we can make this the bunker story recommendation thread.

I actually managed to find a book series on Kindle that isn't absolute dogshit or written by some San Francisco leftist subhuman.

Power Mage by Hondo Jinx - I'll be frank with, I started reading the first book and nearly gave up on it because of the somewhat silly beginning. Former bull rider is watching street performers when a bunch of thugs throw a cat into the ocean and the protagonist rescues it with telekinesis.

I thought it was a tad silly, but after the rough start the story really comes into its own. The protagonist is an actual person, with a personality, ideas and thoughts of his own. Unlike other harem protagonists he doesn't let the women walk all over him, and he has no problems being proactive and planning for things, instead of always being on the defensive.

What follows is a good story about "donutsteal mages", great gunfights and action sequences, cute heroines and a well realized world.

About the only complaint I have is that the pace is a tad fast. It's not as bad as some stories, since there's actually downtime between the action allowing the cast to engage with each other, but by book 3 only three days have passed and they've already killed five dozen people. The author should really have just said it took them a few weeks to get around.

Another complaint is that the heroines become okay with the whole polygamous "marriage" thing way too fast, but at least there's an explanation for it, thin as it might be, and allows the author to get to the good stuff.

tl;dr version - well written action sequences, a likeable cast (especially the protagonist), but has issues with the pacing of the plot and the development of relationships, though nothing so major it would detract from the overall story.

I've included a copy of the book in epub format in the post.

I just tested downloading the file. Just change the extension from "undefined" to "epub" and it should work.

I'm working off of a combined 22 hours of sleep this week thanks to this story. The only reason I'm not workin offa less and finished reading everything currently out is because I somehow managed to pull myself away long enough to be able to get minimal sleep here and there and also did a whole term's worth of work in 6 hours and still managed to get a B for the class. So yes apology accepted but also not accepted because fuck this story has been so much fun and thank you for sharing it.
