To the people of Japan,
Today, as Prime Minister of Japan, I have made the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives on January 23.
Why now?
Is Sanae Takaichi fit to serve as Prime Minister?
I concluded that the only way forward is to let the sovereign people — you — make that judgment.
Making the Japanese archipelago strong and prosperous again.
If we do not start now, it will be too late.
That is why the Takaichi Cabinet has begun implementing a completely new economic and fiscal policy, along with major shifts in policies that go to the very foundation of the nation.
The major policy changes I have advocated — those written in the LDP presidential election pledges and in the coalition agreement with the Japan Innovation Party — will be seriously debated in this year’s Diet session through the FY2026 budget and government-sponsored bills.
Many of these policies were not even included in the LDP’s election manifesto during the previous House of Representatives election.
Moreover, at the time of the last general election, almost no one imagined that I, Sanae Takaichi, would be in a position to lead the national administration of Japan.
Dissolving the Diet is an extremely grave decision.
I have chosen to do so in order not to run away, not to postpone, and to determine the future course of Japan together with all of you, the people.
I myself am staking my position as Prime Minister on this election.
Will the people entrust the stewardship of the nation to Sanae Takaichi?
