Backups for Endchan for rainy days Anonymous 01/09/2021 (Sat) 19:38:39 [Preview] No. 11467
Recently (over the past few years), there's been an alarming trend where tech companies have placed it upon themselves ban, censor, deplatform, etc individuals and websites. The CEO of Mozilla wrote a rather alarming blog post advocating for censoring and deplatforming. Regardless of what you're opinion of that blog is, it is quite concerning. What exactly does Mozilla plan to do?
Who knows, it's not the important part here. What is important is how is Endchan going to prepare against possible censorship, delisting from search results, hosting companies shutting down the server for Endchan?
I know there's Linxchan and IRC. However, I feel that those are temporary solutions to a ever growing problem. I understand that staff is currently stretched to it's limit and everyone here is quite busy. I am curious if the staff of Endchan is discussing the current censorship going on and I am curious what safety nets there are in case Endchan gets targeted for any reason.
My personal input is that it's better to prepare for possible censorship, delisting, etc than to be caught off guard and have Endchan taken down completely.

And my image was eaten.
Nice.

I don't want to leave you hanging for too long so here's a short answer. If Odili wants to add more, or correct me, I believe he will.
Yes we are following and discussing the situation and as of now we feel safe Endchan's position. The several access options means it's harder to take it down, we try to make sure all of them (the clearnet domains, Tor, Lokinet support) work. This means more or less constant management ofc. There's a leeway in infrastructure, so even moving about is possible to some extent. Trying to make contacts with others in the same shoe, and help each other out if need be.
Endchan is a small target that hasn't really rocked the boat. If there's a "hitlist" I think we will see other places getting the short straw first, serving as a warning signal.

In my personal opinion from governmental point of view it is much better to leave people with outlets for their emotions channeling to, and which ofc they can monitor freely and easily, just by opening a browser tab, not to mention some script that archives full sites - I would think the US govt and big tech and such have some coders with some basic bydlon knowledge.
Right now people are sensitive, especially in the US, riled up, nerves raw. The whole last year was about heightened emotions, and anger. And I blame the media's sensationalism by large, they have to turn up the heat to 11 on everything to grab people's attention. Good for business. I think the situation isn't that bad, and we should take a breath, and calm down a little.

If I have some more to add, I'll follow up.

I don't think the hit list will come immediately. However, before the US 2020 elections it appeared that Tech companies were taking aim at, not just conservatives, but anyone one else that did not fall in line. Alex Jones, Louis Farrakhan, Stefan Molynuex were all hit with take downs. More concerning is that CodemonkeyZ was taken down from Twitter and 8kun is no longer listed on Google or Wikipedia. I imagine that the powers that be will probably take aim at 4chan first. But, that's aside the point. If alternative websites start getting shut down. It's better to play it safe and have fail safes, back ups, more stability , etc for Endchan.
It's good to see that you currently have back ups. But, I think playing it safe is a much better position to take than waiting for something to happen.

I believe will be fine. We're a really small website and aren't really relevant.

Did you read the entire article, and not just the headline picture?
