Ya this is not something I've ever dealt with. I know locations of a bunch of public restrooms on my routes and I usually just fill up in there. I also don't do gravel rides where I'm away from civilization

No reason in particular, I usually use 1l bottles. This time it was so muddy that I used a hydration backpack for my "normal water" and filled the two small bidons with sugar water.

Deep lore attentionpayers will know that I actually bought a Sqlabs saddle, but my trainer bike is too big and for Sqlabs it's designed for you to sit on the rear shelf of the saddle so it really didn't work for me.

Went to a new gym candidate today:
- one squat rack
- slippy pl8s you have to secure on the bar each time
- bars slimmer than usual
- only one fatter bar but it has the grippy texture too wide, it is smooth at deadlift width
- no 15 pl8s for me lu raises
- awkward holds around the cable gate
- dumbbells end at fiddy
- no fly, quad or dub (back of the thigh) or ohp machine
- no chalk

I did what I could but it still SUCKED. A big DSQ for that """gym""".

Looking at that AG2R team now, what exactly is the plan.
Hoping Seixas doesn't dip, Kooij has a reliable trein, a free Tiesj will now Tiesj and Lapeira capitalizes on that TdF parcours but that is a lot of things that have to go right to do the heavy UCI credit pulling.

These massive-engine dudes like Tarling, Ganna, Simmons, Politt, etc just aren't built for road victories. You need ability to make a decisive move on some feature and they just do massive watts for long periods and then get kwabbed by puncheurs/sprinteurs/grimpeurs/etc.

Occasional breakaway victory for them (which is probably lowest odds strategy of victory) but that's about it

not many people buy hardtail at a price point over 3k and you can't really do much with hardtails, frame weight is maxed out quickly and so is suspension and groupset

Bert 10/27/2025 (Mon) 20:04 [Preview] No.52112 del
actually I think not many people buy hardtails in general, everybody I know who rides mtb has either a xc full suspension bike if they race or enduro if they don't, or both

From what I see: Every single groupset on the market is 12 speed for a long time, mtb groupsets are cheaper than road since you only have 1 shifter that's separated from the brake, no front derailleur, only a cheap small chainring. On road groups the shifter and brake combo makes up a big chunk of the total price and the big chainring is also expensive, mtb doesn't have that
Afaik on mtb most of the price comes from suspension, then frame, then wheels and the groupset is just an afterthought

I assume it does take time to see stuff with a blood passport because maybe there's permanent improvement etc.

I always think that a blood passport anomaly is just a peak that happens in a span of a year or whatever, like the dauphine period last year where he was absolutely doped as fuck and couldn't replicate that strength before or after

On the other hand, it raises the question what exactly was the great Oier LAZKANO snuffing, because he clearly avoided in-combat detection all this time.
And only because Bora is squeaky clean and his performance dropped to a jobber level was he detected.
One might even speculate what other teams that don't have such a backbone like Bora does, say, Team UAE or Jumbo Visma, are using.

In other news I am contemplating on just buying a new gravel frame. I like my Tideace Noah otherwise but the slack 72.3° seat tube angle just doesn't work with the fit I would like. There's a Mondince chinesium frame I found which looks to be quite decent: progressive geometry with really long reach and a steep 75° seat tube angle, UDH for 1x13s sram, and what looks to be pretty good tyre clearance of at least 50mm. I will have to check the clearance, but if it's similar to the Tideace I guess I will make the purchase. Only 660 USD for the frame, shipped duty paid to Finland – not bad. I will then just switch all the components from the Tideace to the new bike and sell the frame.

Yeah I remember that one as well. Mondince do sell individual frames, you can just contact them through whatsapp for a quote. The geo is quite similar to the Canyon Grail, 435 reach / 610 stack in my size with good 85mm BB drop, but with much better tyre clearance.
I would prefer the Ari Shafer if I was in the US but sadly their shipping to Finland costs over 600e which is just unacceptable.

Bert 10/31/2025 (Fri) 12:04 [Preview] No.52366 del
>>52365
No i don't think so, the new grail has a more "progressive geo" with a longer reach, slacker head tube angle, and possibly steeper seat tube angle. Same thing as with MTBs in the last 10-15 years.

Bert 10/31/2025 (Fri) 12:07 [Preview] No.52367 del

Does progressive geo means more stable and less agile?

Bert 10/31/2025 (Fri) 12:33 [Preview] No.52368 del
>>52367
It has several meanings, but yeah, more stable (especially in descents) is one thing. The bikes are then made more agile handling with shorter stems to pair with those longer reach figures. Another thing is the steeper seat tube angle to promote stronger power transfer in the hip and less hip impingement. But to mitigate the problems with toe overlap, the slacker head tube angle makes for a longer front-center, so no toe overlap.

>In the biography, which Cavendish wrote in collaboration with Daniel Friebe, the Briton indicates that Lefevere postponed contract negotiations with Cavendish several times after his successful Tour de France in 2021. In that Tour, Cavendish won four stages and took home the green jersey, but a new contract was still not signed until the autumn.

>And Cavendish blames Lefevere for that . "He made me sweat for months again. It felt like he was messing with me. I found the whole saga quite insulting. I took the bait at €500,000, but I really should have stuck with €750,000. Somehow, Patrick found a way to come out on top again."

>Lefevere has responded to the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad about Cavendish's statements. According to the Belgian, there are some inaccuracies in his former rider's account. "I think it's a shame what Mark wrote in his biography. I rescued him from a difficult situation and gave him a contract when no one wanted him anymore. Now we get this..."

>"Mark got everything we agreed upon during that period," he concludes. "Just like all the other riders who rode for our team. There are inaccuracies in his story that I won't elaborate on, but ingratitude was clearly the reward."

also some dude explained why it took so long

>So, Lazkano found abnormalities in his biological passport, but before these fluctuations are considered "suspicious," a considerable period of time elapses. "All biological values fluctuate, for everyone. If a fluctuation is too large—beyond what you would expect in a normal person—the passport is sent to an expert. They examine the fluctuations and all sorts of other factors. For example: has the athlete been on an altitude training camp?"

>"The expert then has to interpret. Is the excessive fluctuation due to a reason given by the athlete, such as an altitude training camp? Or is the fluctuation inexplicable based on the data they have, and is it therefore potentially doping? If they ultimately conclude that doping is the only possible explanation, the passport is sent to two other experts. They all act independently. If they all reach the same conclusion, the process is initiated."

>Finally, Van Eeno discusses the role of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. Could they have foreseen this? "Before teams offer riders a contract, they can first measure or request their blood values and see for themselves how large the fluctuations are. I think many teams do that, but I don't know if that was the case here. However, the biological passport falls under the GDPR legislation... Only the athlete themselves have access to it," he concluded in Het Laatste Nieuws.

You cheated on me and the sport: fuck you, I thought. I think every rider had the same mentality."

When you're at the starting line with 160 riders, everyone treats you like shit. That's what you deserve, in my opinion. When you're treated like that, you don't want to hang around in a peloton like that anymore. You could really bully those guys out of the sport. Back where they belong."

Well yeah that's true. My brother has been training for the 10k for a couple of years now. His build is very similar to mine, comparable vo2max to mine when both were untrained etc. but for some reason he just can't improve his 10k time like he wants. He's constantly stuck at 40-42min, even though he can run 3000m in slightly over 10min, so his threshold sucks in comparison. I'm constantly telling him to just take up cycling, heh.

Also, for those who have built up their own wheels, how the hell are you supposed to guess the length of the spokes? The manufacturers do not supply half of these measurements "needed" by Sapim. I guess I could wait until I have the hubs and rims and then measure and order the spokes, but it would be nice to be able to order everything at the same time. Building up nicer carbon dynamo wheels for the everyday bike.

I've built up one rear wheel and yes you unironically need to measure everything by hand yourself unless they give you pic rel which of course based CHYNAman does but many brands don't and you also already need to know which spoke pattern you're going to lace the wheel with since that affects effective spoke length.
Also you can't always trust the rim diameter number that the rim manufacturer gives you which sounds bizarre because why wouldn't they know that but sometimes its a few mm off and that can also fuck you

My apartment, shit. I'm still only in my apartment. Every time I think I'm going to wake up back in Central Park. When I was home after my first laps, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing...

I hardly said a word to my wife until I said yes to changing my tenth diaper of the day.
When I was there, I wanted to be here. When I'm here, all I can think of is getting back onto the bike.

I've been here a week now. Waiting for a BIG ride. Getting softer. Every minute I stay in this room I get weaker. And every minute Bertacek bonks on an alp, he gets stronger. Each time I look around the walls move in a little tighter.

Everyone gets everything he wants. I wanted a child, and for my sins they gave me one.

backpacking means multiday hiking involving camps and bears
in europe it for some reason means jumping from city to city and sleeping in hostels or something

Thank god I can start riding again next week, I want to hit at least 600h of riding this year. My cold weather gear arrived so good to go do some outdoor rides as well now.

4k km/a is not acceptable in this general, do at least 10k km next year
same goes for everyone else who is not currently injured like >>52805
