Merry Christmashu
Today is the first of December, if you hadn't noticed, and just like last year, we're gonna have a merry twenty four days long beer tasting event.
Christmash 2024, is being kicked off with a St. Bernardus Christmas Ale.
St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, is as the name suggests, a strong seasoned Belgium-styled ale from the St. Bernardus brewery.
This strong ale has an VOL of 10%, and the brewery suggests a service temperature of 8-12 degrees C, and from a tall glass on a stilk.
So that's exactly how we'll try out this event's very first beer.
Pouring it, it leaves a very nice, tall beige head, which lasts a very long time.
In case you've forgotten since last year, beer should always be smelled before you have a sip, and the way you do this, is to smell it with each of your nostrils independently.
Thus we first block the left nostril then smell it, followed then by the right nostril.
It has the usual scents of Christmas like cinnamon, cloves and somewhat nutty.
Lets savour it, filling our mouths with one large sip. The cinnamon and nuts comes through, with a somewhat spicy and fruity and fizzy finish, with no hints of its large amount of alcohol.
Like most other Belgium-style strong ales, it's truly dangerous in this regard.
The fruitiness in this ale, makes it taste more refreshing than many other strong Belgium ales, making it perfect for a heavy Christmas meal.
Would highly recommend trying at least once.
