UKRAINE'S $2.1 BILLION PATRIOT DEAL: FOLLOW THE MONEY — LOCKHEED MARTIN, RAYTHEON, NATO AND THE US DEFENCE INDUSTRY Reader 10/31/2026 (Sat) 23:33 Id: a2e3e1 [Preview] No. 29294
$2.1 BILLION FOR PATRIOT MISSILES. WHO REALLY BENEFITS?

On 30 October 2026, the US State Department approved a proposed sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptors to Ukraine.

Principal contractor: LOCKHEED MARTIN (NYSE: LMT).

Let's follow the money.

WHO PAYS?

Canada, Germany and Norway are financing the purchase through the US JUMPSTART programme, alongside Ukrainian funding supported by an EU-backed loan.

No US government funding is involved in this particular purchase.

The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) administers the Foreign Military Sales arrangements. Foreign governments contribute funding which is used to purchase American military equipment.

European taxpayers are therefore helping finance contracts for American weapons manufacturers.

WHO GETS THE CONTRACT?

Lockheed Martin manufactures the PAC-3 MSE interceptor.

The $2.1 billion package covers 500 missiles, spare parts, logistics and support. That's an average of $4.2 million per interceptor across the package, although not the actual missile unit price.

Interestingly, these missiles have not yet been manufactured. Deliveries are expected to extend into the early 2030s.

THE MUCH BIGGER CONTRACTS

In September 2025, the US Army awarded Lockheed a $9.8 billion contract for 1,970 PAC-3 MSE interceptors and associated hardware.

On 8 January 2026, Lockheed announced a seven-year agreement with the US government to increase annual production capacity from approximately 600 to 2,000 missiles.

On 29 July 2026, the US Army announced a multiyear contract framework with a potential ceiling of $58.62 BILLION.

That's a contract ceiling, not money already paid.

Lockheed reported a record order backlog of approximately $194 billion at the end of 2025.

RAYTHEON / RTX ALSO BENEFITS

Patriot is not a one-company operation.

RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technologies) supplies major components, including radar and command systems.

Lockheed manufactures the interceptor; Raytheon supplies other essential parts of the wider system.

RTX reported approximately $75 billion in defence backlog at the end of 2025.

FOLLOW THE POLITICAL CONNECTIONS

Lockheed operates a substantial Washington lobbying operation and an employee-funded political action committee.

Its lobbying covers defence budgets, procurement, government spending and international trade.

Political contributions and lobbying disclosures are publicly available through the Federal Election Commission.

This doesn't prove that contributions secured contracts. It does demonstrate the extensive political activity of companies whose revenues depend heavily on government procurement.

WHAT ABOUT OLD WEAPONS?

These particular missiles aren't obsolete stock being dumped on Ukraine. They're modern interceptors that still need to be manufactured.

But there is a wider cycle worth understanding:

Weapons are transferred to Ukraine. Western inventories are depleted. Governments order replacements. Defence manufacturers receive new contracts.

The US Government Accountability Office has also documented weaknesses in tracking third-party weapons transfers to Ukraine (GAO-24-106745).

THE BOTTOM LINE

European countries help finance the purchases.

Washington administers the procurement.

Lockheed Martin and RTX receive the manufacturing business.

American production capacity expands.

NATO countries continue buying replacements and modernising their inventories.

None of this proves that the war is being prolonged for corporate profit.

But the financial beneficiaries, contracts, lobbying operations and political relationships are identifiable.

Billions of dollars are changing hands. The companies receiving that money are worth examining.

Follow the money.

The interesting thing is that the financial relationships don't need to be guessed at.

Government contracts, corporate annual reports, lobbying disclosures and political contribution records are publicly accessible.

The next question is how much of this expanding defence business is ultimately being financed by European taxpayers.

Do the math. 7 years to manufacture 2,000 patriot missiles that costs almost $60 Billion total....

Even if Ukraine were to get ALL of them in 7 years that is not nearly enough to defend from the amount of Russian drones and missiles being smashed into their country by the day. They would run out of patriot missiles within a matter of a year.

Worse for Ukraine, many of those Patriot missiles are being diverted to Israel instead of Europe or Ukraine.

It is not sustainable. Ukraine will continue begging countries every single month for more aid as has been happening for some time. Eventually they'll bankrupt Europe, or completely rely on the US for aid which will come with very long waits and not near the amount of aid needed over time.

2,000 new patriot missiles in a 7 year time period (IF all are delivered to Ukraine) vs 1,000 Russian drones and a couple dozen missiles per month. Absolutely not sustainable, the math just does not add up.

You forget that every Patriot Ukraine launches takes out 10 times as many Russian missiles.
