the problem with the "war on drugs" is that its goal was in actuality never to stop the trade of drugs. if it was, it would have been more like an actual war. smugglers would have been shot without trial, cartels and gangs treated like terrorist entities and wiped out with the full force of the military, all junkies arrested and forced into rehabilitation centres, and the drug problem would have been stamped out with relative ease. but that's not what happened. just because the efforts we got were largely ineffective and sometimes counter-productive doesn't mean we need to do the polar opposite and allow circulation of this "high-value product", it means we should crack down much harder. it would not be so high-value if anyone possessing it was liable to lose their lives, who would want to buy a mark on their head?
