Many think most of Trump's announcements are market manipulation.

LATEST NEWS

Repost from /news/.
Things aren't looking good for a lot of people

Interviews and first-hand accounts from sailors stranded in the Persian Gulf — under threat of drone attacks, missiles, and exploding boats — reveal an increasingly dire humanitarian crisis unfolding.

Iran's blockade of one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, the Strait of Hormuz, has unleashed pain on global markets.

The normally busy strait has been mostly empty since the start of the war. But inside the Persian Gulf, some 2,000 ships remain.

And while the US-Israel war with Iran rages on, the crews on those stranded ships are facing their own battle of attrition.

A shaky ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has brought “a careful sense of hope” for the crew, but there is still no clear end to the war. “Day to day, we try to keep things normal with open conversations and small team activities that help lift everyone’s spirits.”
The crew sighted drones and missile interceptions several times, both near the ship and along the horizon during their watches. “Those moments were difficult and created real tension for the crew,” Dhar told The Associated Press.

“None of us expected the warlike situation,” he said, noting that reliable internet has helped them stay in touch with families. “Those calls and messages really keep us grounded and give us strength.”

Shortages of global seafarers may worsen

The International Maritime Organization and others have called for a safe corridor for commercial vessels in the strait. Most ships are still unable to pass through.
Iran has said the strait is open to vessels it does not consider hostile and has demanded tolls for passage. Reports also alleged mines were placed in the waterway, and Trump said the U.S. was clearing
them and would “shoot and kill” boats laying mines.

Under heightened risks of mines and attacks, “there is no safe transit anywhere in the Strait of Hormuz,” said IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.

Multiple crises in recent years — including COVID-19, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and attacks in the Red Sea — have already left many seafarers stranded at sea. Shipping executives warn the situation could worsen global crew shortages.

Thanks for the info, Spain anon. You might not see this over seas, but in the USA even in red states, people are putting this sticker sideways at pumps next to gas prices. "Short term pain for long term gain" repeated scripted phrase across news media, courtesy of fucking Israel.
