My thought on OSes from scummy companies Anonymous 07/08/2026 (Wed) 14:19 [Preview] No. 78817
From the many things i hate, i must share that i hate scummy companies, and OH boy i got a MASSIVE opinion on Operating Systems and their impact on everything.

All modern corporate Operating Systems absolutely suck ass today. I found some alternatives that I really enjoy and most come activated by default or free to use.

One I recommend is a Linux alternative to Windows 10 called Zorin OS. I have version 17.3 rather than 18 because I like version 17.3 better, it doesn't have that annoying top tab I hated when using version 18.

Many others recommend Linux Mint. You can find a bunch of Linux options @ distrowatch.com

Another option previously mentioned here was trying out different Windows bootlegs @ crustywindo.ws

I currently use a debloated bootleg of Windows 10 called OscuraOS, super awesome. No registration needed, runs fast, not bogged down with Miscoslop crapware or AI. Runs great, I can even load older software like Nero Burning Rom 5.0, DVDShrink, Handbreak and Foobar2000. Super lightweight everything loads great.

There are other free alternatives such as Tiny11, Clean OS 10 CompactLite, MPB ChaOS and Pink Neon 7. All lightweight, no registration needed (already activated by default), all seem to work just fine.

I recommend you get yourself a decent burner laptop and start trying alternatives out.

I have tested many OS' ranging from Windows, macOS, to Linux, UnixSVR4 and DOS/QDOS as well as Android-derived OS'.
I appreciate your recommendations though.
(A lot of this i explained in my attached .txt, as this was more an opinion on a very narrowed amount of software)

Windows 7 was the last great proprietary operating system before all the corporate brands went to shit. Windows XP was good too but unfortunately XP is easily compromised if taken online for extended periods of time. There are viruses that actively seek out IPs connected to XP to auto-infect them. That may go for 7 at this point too but not sure. AI will probably make this problem a lot worse in the future so you definitely should be creating offline backups and using cheaper refurbished burner laptops. Never trust these older operating systems for storing personal identifying information unless you air-gap them. For example, I only use a burner laptop connected to the internet for torrent & p2p file sharing. I use it for nothing personal or any sort of identity.

Mac OS X 10.7 was the last decent operating system IF you have it air-gapped and never updated it. I have a TON of great software on one older Apple PC today, it as the old version 10.7 and has never ever been updated.

I think we all here could agree that any OS pre-2K is actually kind of decent.

Depends on what you are doing and what you are running on those older operating systems. Many of them work fine if you don't allow garbage bloating the system.

Depends a lot if you let the system get bloated, most of the NT issues a long time ago(and even now) Were heavily caused by:
- Badly Written Software
- Hardware Issues
- User Error

And as >>78845 said:
>Many of them work fine if you don't allow garbage bloating the system.
Which is true even for newer(lesser) versions of the same OS.
