I do though. I had a Microshift 9 speed cassette that had 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32. I was never really getting the right cadence and then add that it always took a while for the shift to happen. whatever Shimano does, simply just works.

if we consider that there are like 80 different brands that offer bikes between 5 and 14k exclusively there seems to be enough of a market
apparently the bike industry has been struggling for 3 years but if that was true then how come we have more than 5 road bike brands globally? If the market was truly oversaturated you could only make a buck by min-maxing every % out of your business

but that's not even spacing, a 2 tooth jump in the smaller cogs is massive while a 2 tooth jump in the high 20s or low 30 tooth cogs is so small you would barely even notice it
you have to look at it relative to the individual cog size

Bert 06/30/2026 (Tue) 19:27 [Preview] No.98564 del

it must cost basically nothing to riff on designs by the real brands, come up with some paint schemes, and spend most of your effort on marketing

I understand your average speed is like 10 km/h faster than mine, but for me, I would prefer smaller difference mid gear than smaler difference lower gear.

curious I compared a 12 speed shimano 11-34 (upper) to the 11 speed shimano 11-34 and it turns out the 11 speed has much closer spaced cogs past the four smallest cogs.
This means by """"upgrading"""" to 12 speed you gain the tight spacing in the small cogs (that you don't need) and lose the tight spacing in the big cogs that you enjoy heh that's funny

>>98565
yea I get it and I'm with you because as I've said before probably 90% of all people globally don't use the small cogs and if they do it's just for a short time. But even aftermarket cassettes just copy the ratios that shimano and sram have to there's no winning to be had there either.

>>98565
Ah yes, the reverse problem with the 1x. I have -13-11 and after I finally go from 30 to 36 on the chainring I think I will buy a 12 so the jump between the final two-three cogs is not so drastic.
The biggest one, maybe even two can go away, I am never using them on my shop ride mtb.

Bert 06/30/2026 (Tue) 19:51 [Preview] No.98572 del
>>98568
Road sets only have 52/36 and 50/34 (and higher of coursh)
GRX is 46/30 and 48/31 but i don't think they are interchangable without some adjustement (there's some sort of ofset difference due to bigger tire clearance but don't quote me on that)

Bert 06/30/2026 (Tue) 19:57 [Preview] No.98573 del

so you have 2 options then, get stronger or buy a gravel bike after all

you can also get a crankset for directmount chainrings, a mate of mine recently got a rotor crank because he wanted to go for short cranks and and also got 48/31 dm chainrings to go with it, the crank is fully modular so you can just put a road length spindle on there and the chainline should be normal. Rotor is needlessly expensive though, there's lots of chyna dm cranks on aliX but idk whats good and whats crap

>Currently, both the athletes' performance parameters and race course data are utilized to develop ideal pacing strategies for time trials or standard stages. Recently, at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, this kind of data modeling formed the basis for Luke Tuckwell's surprising second-place overall finish behind the Mexican standout Isaac Del Toro. 'We knew he wouldn't beat Del Toro on the climb. However, our goal was for him to finish on the podium,' Head Coach Wakefield explains, outlining the initial situation. 'So we analyzed the data from the previous two days, looking at how much time he had lost on specific climbs. We then fed in all the other information regarding temperature, humidity, course length, and gradient. From this, we deduced how quickly Del Toro would conquer the upcoming mountains, assuming a specific power output in watts per kilogram of body weight.'

This, in turn, allowed the team to calculate how much time Tuckwell would lose—and what performance he would need to deliver to ultimately secure a spot on the podium. That strategy successfully played out in the actual mountains as well.

Thank you Bora Bulls, my new GPU will cost as much as my road bike.
