If the politicians of New York wanted cheaper housing and apartments they would build more of them and reduce the amount of paper work and taxation for building contractors. New York makes it so damn burdensome and expensive to build anything, permit for a, b ,c ,x, y z etc. Not to mention the amount of taxes the landlords/building owners have to pay! All these liberal cities are so damn expensive, too expensive, overly regulated so prices are outrageous. Anyone can move out to middle America and live far less cheaper. I live near a small rural town and there are apartments in town selling next to Dollar General advertising $600 per month for example. With a decent trade job you could easily afford that plus other expenses and even save some money too.

It is really just like every failing policy, they push for more government and higher taxation, it doesn't work out years later, complete failure, so these dupes and morons always call for more government and higher taxation to fix the problems they voted for before, and that makes it worse over time, so they call for more government and higher taxes and you can guess how this ends, a repetitive doom loop until a revolution, a revolution that will exist to extract more wealth from everyone else till the system falls apart and there is a lack of other peoples' money to spend and no one bothers investing anymore, anyone with capital and wealth long have fled to greener pastures. The kicker here is the wealthy people and capital investors they seem to hate so much are all packing up and moving to places like Florida and Texas. There are even murmurs going around that major Wall Street businesses and banks are considering relocating out of New York entirely. Could you imagine 10 years from now NYC no longer being a banking hub anymore?

I can sympathize that rent is too high, absolutely, but why does New York City make it nearly impossible and extremely expensive to build new apartment buildings? Why are the property taxes so high? Why so much expensive burdensome zoning codes and regulation just to own and rent out an apartment building? Perhaps these high taxes and restrictive regulations are making supply scarce and costing everyone too much money?

Why is it that in less restrictive communities and States, where there is lower taxation and less regulation, apartments end up being far cheaper?

It really comes down to logic. Common sense. Either you have it, or don't.

I once had literal piss and shit raining down from the ceiling of my apartment, landlord told me go tell the tenant upstairs to get their waste pipe fixed and it wasn't his problem so don't bother him anymore.
