Germany demolishes its most advanced coal plant after only six years of operation
Germany demolished the Moorburg coal plant, one of Europe's most advanced, just six years after its launch, underscoring its shift to clean energy in pursuit of climate goals.

In a move reflecting Germany's determination to achieve its climate targets, the massive Moorburg power station in Hamburg, touted as among Europe's most advanced coal-burning plants, was demolished in a controlled explosion.
The footage captures a massive explosion detonating the building, followed by the plant collapsing as thick gray smoke billows over the industrial area.
The collapse, a grim visual reminder of the country's energy shift, came just six years after the plant first went into operation. The building of the 1,654 MW Moorburg plant was a massive investment, worth more than 3 billion euros.
Its capacity was large, with the ability to provide electricity for about 1.5 million homes. But despite its cutting-edge technology and potential, Moorburg's life was suddenly cut short.
The early closure was a direct result of Germany's plan to shut down coal power as part of its overall approach to fight climate change.
In 2021, the thermal power plant was shut down as part of the government's green energy policy. The demolition of the plant was scheduled in March, but the process did not unfold as planned, according to German news outlet Bild.
The demolition, intended to collapse both boiler rooms of the plant, was partially unsuccessful. When the explosion occurred, only one of the two boiler rooms collapsed, leaving the other intact.

I'll just say this: I've worked at several Big Tech companies, and every one of them had a sizable engineering presence in China. There were internal policies meant to protect sensitive information, but they were easy to work around. It's one thing to say you're worried about IP theft, but what I saw looked more like negligence, maybe even borderline complicity. And I think, maybe this is obvious to everyone but me, there’s a strong "do as I say, not as I do" quality to how these companies talk about China versus how they actually operate. That disconnect makes it hard to tell what's really going on and what actually hurts or helps companies.

Eyal Zamir, other key IDF staff, and leaders from multiple Israeli National Security Organizations. Gen. Kurilla, Lt. Gen. Zamir, and the other leaders discussed a range of strategic security issues across the region. Gen. A North Carolina father spoke about how his daughters and son-in-law were killed execution-style, a murder he said was sparked by bigotry. Migration at the U.S. Southern Border
U.S Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials testified on migration issues at the U.S. southern border before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. They addressed efforts to reunite migrant children with their families, the interdiction of fentanyl and other illicit drugs, and the root causes of migration from Central America. Officials from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also provided testimony.
